Bitcoin is Legal Tender in Special Economic Zone of Honduras

Prospera, a special economic zone on the island of Roatan, made bitcoin and cryptocurrency legal tender. Honduras’ new rule will permit residents and foreign businesses to pay taxes and fees in bitcoin or cryptocurrency. Prospera will also allow municipalities and domestic companies to “issue bonds in bitcoin to entice foreign investment,” although U.S. companies in the area are banned from applying to the bitcoin bond program.
